About

The short of the long story.….

In 2009 we started roasting premium grade specialty coffees in small batches on a little roaster in a side street warehouse in Sequim, Wa. Friday morning tastings and two weekly farmers markets quickly created a growing group of regular bulk coffee buyers and led to a handful of local wholesale accounts. The need for a larger roaster and a retail space came quicker than expected. In 2012 we opened our café in downtown Sequim and soon after designed and built a bigger roaster to sustain our new growth forward. We also connected with local watercolor artist Todd Fischer who created the beautiful artwork for our labeling and branding. For the next several years the café developed a steady pulse and became a go to in Sequim for cultural events, good food and a wide variety of delicious, unique, coffees from around the world. Rainshadow Coffee can now be found in many restaurants, coffee shops, and markets across the Olympic Peninsula and neighboring communities in the Puget Sound area.

The Rainshadow Café in Sequim continues to be the premier retail outlet for our fine coffees and our roaster still spins most days of the week behind the scenes. We continue to produce the absolute highest quality coffee we can by sourcing the finest, direct trade, ethical, small farm, naturally produced coffees available and roasting them in small, precise batches on the roasters we design and build. We look forward to crafting our product as much as we do consuming it and we expect it to be nothing shy of excellent.

We offer a variety of signature blends and single origin options roasted light to very dark depending on how we see fit. Custom blending, labeling and packaging available for wholesale customers as well as free shipping and delivery. Wholesale pricing is tiered depending on quantity, order frequency and shipping /delivery details. Retail pricing varies slightly between locations and online.

Not to say that those machines aren’t worth it,” said Batcheller. “But we feel like we can build something brand new in California that’s super simple and it’s going to be a workhorse...”

The new roasting space in Paso Robles will allow the business to expand its wholesale products, Nick says, and return to the family’s California roots.

“It’s a really exciting time for us,” Nick said.
